Percentage allocation
Thanks for answering my prior question and a continuation to it, based on your input I purchased WM and if you were me I guess you will hold it as long as it doesn't cut the 5% rule that abide by, if it continues to goes up then you will sell 1st 1/3rd with 10% gain, 2nd 1/3rd with 20% gain and leave rest as it is as long as it rides above the 50 day moving average.
MARKET ENVIRONMENT IS EVERYTHING!
That is why I include it at the top of the page on a daily basis.
I am not sure of your entry price on WM. That is a good stock for this type of environment as it is a "defensive" stock. I would not allow WM to trade below $218.51 as that is the low from the week of February 7. That is also 5% below the $230.00 level. I would start taking some profits (33% or more) at a 5% gain. This market is not allowing for much appreciation. If you bought at $230 then taking partial profit at $240 makes sense while the market is so weak.
Second question: Marty How much % of capital would you recommend being allocated under good market conditions into the market, how much % per stock and how many different stocks do you recommend holding at any given time.
I this current environment I would play small and hold no position above 10% of the portfolio. Even in. a weak tape we can find good stocks. However, they are not as likely to advance as they would in a stronger market. We must take profits more quickly in this type of environment. In a strong market I would hold up to 25% or even more with a strong stock that I had conviction in like Nvidia in early 2024.
