New Subscriber – Seeking Guidance on Leveraging Your Service More Effectively
Hi Marty,
I'm a long-time viewer and recently became a new subscriber to your service! I've truly appreciated your insights over the years. My investing style has historically leaned towards long-term holding, which presented some challenges in 2022. After patiently watching many of my past positions rebound, I'm now looking to take more active control of my investments, and that's what led me to subscribe.
I've had some great winners using picks from your ready list, and I'm genuinely impressed. However, I've also found myself getting shaken out of positions fairly early. I'm currently using some of William O'Neil's sell strategies, such as a 7% stop-loss at initiation and adjusting it upward as the stock moves. I also typically take profits after a 20%+ gain and let the remainder ride with an 8% trailing stop.
I'm wondering if a wider stop might be more appropriate for certain stocks, especially given that I have a day job and can't monitor positions closely during market hours. For example, I bought HNGE around your ready price, got stopped out, and then saw it jump 10% by the end of the day.
I'm also a little unsure about how you treat the ready list stocks in your daily review videos. While I understand the expectation to monitor them independently and ensure they're acting right (like staying above key moving averages), it would be incredibly helpful to hear your thoughts on them more consistently in your reviews. I've noticed you often cover stocks not on the ready list, and while those insights are valuable, I sometimes feel a bit lost on how to manage my ready list picks when they're not discussed.
I've been prioritizing names that appear on both your ready list and relative strength list, as those seem to perform more favorably.
Please know that this isn't meant as criticism at all; I truly appreciate all the hard work you put into providing such a wealth of content, especially the daily videos. I subscribed hoping for a bit more direct guidance with the picks. The sheer volume of names on the lists, which change daily, can be a bit overwhelming. I sometimes lose confidence in picks when I don't hear you discussing them, and it's easy to cherry-pick the successful ones, but as a subscriber, I can't invest in everything.
Overall, I genuinely love your service, and I'm eager to learn how to leverage it more effectively. How do you envision your subscribers getting the most out of your product? Are there any common strategies among your most successful subscribers that you could share, particularly regarding how they've seen results from using your service?
Thanks again for all your help and guidance! This is a very thoughtful series of questions!
The Stock Market Update video at the end of the session is just a review of things I am observing in the markets.
The ready list is a set of stocks (usually 5-15) that are near paper buy points as I do NOT like chasing performance.
You seem to be more of a position/swing trader and do not have time to monitor your stocks on a daily basis. In that situation I would stay away from the momentum stocks and own the stocks with the strongest fundamentals. You mention HNGE and that is a wild IPO stock and we MUST know what we own before buying a stock. HNGE has an average daily range of 10% and that is a volatile stock.
It is great that you take some profits after 20% gains as studies have shown most stocks will stall after running 20%-25%. If we have a few 20%-25% gainers we can afford a few 5% losses, and that is the formula for success.
The most important aspect of this service is to identify the markets direction, and that is critical to our success as we need the tailwinds from the index to sustain success. Many investors/traders have a difficult time deciphering the markets direction. The second most important aspect of the service is stock selection. I provide a good deal of ideas on the ready list every week, and review them on the weekend report.
I am obviously speaking in generalities. However, if you need assistance with a few specific stocks I can provide more help. Please ask any and all questions that come trough mind. It does seem like you are well on you way to being. Avery profitable trader. There is large learnings curve to this game!
Regards,
Marty
