The "ANT Indicator" was created by David Ryan who is a successful  investor/trader at William O'Neil Capital Management, and started his own firm at Ryan Capital Management.

The ANT formula has three critical components

1. A stock must increase 20% or more within 15 trading days
2. The volume must increase 20% or more in that time
3. The stock must trade higher  in 12 of those 15 days

The term "ANT" started as a a programmer started putting black dots on the charts and they looked like ants.
